Emergency broken glass: temporary boarding-up and permanent replacement

For broken glass outside working hours, a temporary board-up is almost always needed before the permanent glass is fitted. What to quote in each phase.

When glass breaks outside business hours (a burglary, an accident, a storm), it is almost never possible to make and fit the permanent glass on the spot: the immediate solution is a temporary board-up that protects the home or premises until the final replacement.

Temporary boarding-up: the first intervention

It consists of covering the opening with a rigid panel (wood, emergency acrylic) securely fixed, guaranteeing protection against intrusion and the weather while the permanent glass is made to size. It is a service charged separately from the final replacement, as it involves a different emergency visit.

Why the permanent glass isn't immediate

Except for very standard sizes that can be kept in stock, most glass (especially tempered, laminated or with specific treatment) is made to size to order, with a lead time of several days that the client must know about from the first moment so as not to expect an instant solution.

Quote both phases separately

Separating in the quote the emergency temporary board-up from the permanent glass replacement helps the client understand they are two different services with their own costs, and avoids the feeling of "double charging" for what are really two distinct interventions.
