Before quoting the automation of a gate, you must confirm whether it is sliding or swing, because the type of motor, the civil work needed and the final price change quite a lot between the two systems.

Sliding gate: motor on a rack

The motor is installed next to the sliding track and moves the leaf by means of a toothed rack fixed along the gate. It needs a firm foundation base for the motor and enough lateral space for the leaf to slide fully when opening.

Swing gate: articulated-arm or piston motor

The motor is anchored at a fixed point (pillar or wall) and on the leaf itself, pushing it in a turning movement similar to a conventional door. It requires a solid anchor point on the pillar, and its power calculation depends on the weight and the arm length of the leaf.

Why the gate's weight determines the motor

Each motor has a limit of weight and leaf length it can move safely. Installing a motor undersized for the gate's real weight causes premature wear and frequent faults, so weighing or properly calculating the gate before choosing the motor is a step that shouldn't be skipped when quoting.
