Installing floating wood flooring can be done with two very different systems, and choosing the right one changes both the work time and the possibility of removing it in future.
Click system: quick and removable
The planks lock together by pressure tongue-and-groove, with no glue or nails, resting on a foam or cork underlay that also insulates against noise. It is the quickest system to install and allows the floor to be dismantled if necessary in future, although the feel underfoot may be slightly less firm than glued.
Glued system: firmer, no going back
The planks are glued directly to the substrate (generally concrete or a well-levelled screed), giving a firmer, more solid feel underfoot, similar to a traditional floor. It is a permanent system: once glued, removing it means breaking the material, so it can't be reused.
When to choose each
The click system is the usual option in standard home renovations for its speed and future flexibility. The glued one is recommended on high-traffic commercial premises or when maximum firmness and stability of the floor is sought, accepting that the change of base is not reversible.
