In everyday talk "reinforced" and "armoured" are used almost as synonyms, but in construction they are different products with different security levels and prices.

Reinforced door: reinforcement over a conventional door

It consists of adding a steel sheet to (or cladding with it) a conventional wooden door, also reinforcing the frame and the lock. It notably improves resistance compared with an unreinforced wooden door, at a lower cost than a complete armoured door.

Armoured door: built entirely as a security system

It is factory-made as a closed assembly (leaf, frame, anti-lever hinges, multipoint lock), certified to standardised resistance levels. Its security level is higher and uniform across all its components, unlike the reinforced door, where security depends on how the reinforcement was carried out.

What to recommend depending on the case

For a home that already has a wooden door in good condition and a tight budget, reinforcing may be enough. For new-build, full renovations or clients who prioritise security over cost, the certified armoured door offers clearer, more uniform guarantees.
