Choosing the material for external joinery (windows, entrance doors) is a decision the client will carry for decades, and deserves a clear explanation of the real differences.
Wood: traditional aesthetics, with maintenance
Wood offers the warmest and most natural look, and good thermal insulation by nature, but needs periodic maintenance (varnish or wood stain) to protect it from the weather, especially on facades highly exposed to sun or rain.
PVC: the lowest-maintenance option
PVC needs no painting or varnishing maintenance, has excellent thermal insulation thanks to its low conductivity, and its price is usually lower than wood or aluminium of equivalent range. Its limit is in sash size (less rigid than aluminium) and colour options, more limited although many wood-effect finishes exist today.
Aluminium: strength and large formats
Aluminium allows the largest and slimmest sashes, withstands weather very well with hardly any maintenance, and is the usual option on modern facades with large glazed panels. Its thermal insulation is worse than PVC unless it has a thermal break, an improvement worth explaining to the client because it changes the price quite a bit.
