Cutting a standard rectangular glass and cutting a curved or irregular shape are processes with very different prices, although at first sight the client may not understand why.

Standard straight cut

The rectangular cut is the simplest and cheapest process, done with automated cutting machines that score the straight line and separate the glass accurately and quickly. It is the price basis for most glazing quotes.

Curved or irregular shapes: manual and slower process

Cutting a curve, a non-standard angle or a shape with several irregular sides requires a prior template and, in many cases, more hand-crafted cutting or specific CNC machines, with longer processing time and greater risk of breakage during cutting, which translates into a considerably higher price than the equivalent straight cut by area.

Template: a step you can't skip

For any non-rectangular shape, it's always advisable to work from a physical template taken on site (cardboard or rigid material cut to the exact size), instead of relying on hand-written measurements. An error in the template translates directly into a useless piece of glass, with its cost of lost material.
