A plumber's hourly rate varies quite a lot with the area, the type of work and whether it's a scheduled service or an emergency, and it's one of the most common questions for someone asking for a quote for the first time.
Guideline rates
As a market reference in Spain, a self-employed plumber usually bills €25–40/hour on scheduled maintenance or small repair jobs, and €40–70/hour (or a fixed emergency fee) outside normal hours, on public holidays or in the early hours. Plumbing companies with travel included also usually apply a minimum call-out charge, regardless of the real duration of the work.
What pushes the price up
Jobs that require chasing out a wall or floor, replacing long sections of pipe, or working on old lead or fibre-cement installations take more time and materials than a simple tap or cistern repair, and are quoted separately from the basic hourly rate.
Why a fixed-price quote is better on big jobs
For complete bathroom or kitchen renovations, charging by the hour leaves the client not knowing the final cost until it's finished. The usual approach in these cases is to give a fixed-price quote by item (materials + estimated labour), keeping the hourly rate for one-off call-outs and emergencies.
