Online reviews have become one of the factors that most influences a new client's decision, and yet many professionals avoid asking for them for fear of seeming awkward or pushy.

The right moment to ask

The best moment is right after handing over the finished work, when the client's satisfaction is at its peak, not weeks later when the memory has faded. Using the handover visit itself to ask, in person or by immediate message, gives better results than waiting.

Make the process as easy as possible

Sending the link straight to the platform where you want the review, instead of asking the client to "look up the company and leave a review", greatly reduces friction and increases the likelihood that they will actually write it.

Ask naturally, not with pressure

A short, sincere message explaining that reviews help a small business grow a great deal usually gets a better response than a message that sounds like insistent begging or a condition for future discounts.

What to do about a negative review

Replying calmly, without getting defensive, acknowledging what is due and explaining how it was or would be resolved, conveys professionalism to anyone who reads that review later, even more than if there had been no criticism at all.
