For the roofs of industrial, agricultural or commercial buildings, the choice is almost always between plain sheet metal and sandwich panel, and the price difference is justified mainly by the insulation.
Plain sheet: the cheapest option
Uninsulated sheet metal is the cheapest solution per m², suitable for buildings with no need for internal thermal control, such as stores for materials not sensitive to temperature. It offers no relevant thermal or acoustic insulation against rain.
Sandwich panel: built-in insulation
Sandwich panel incorporates an insulating core (usually polyurethane or rock wool) between two metal sheets, giving thermal insulation and a notable reduction in rain noise compared with plain sheet. Its price per m² is considerably higher, but it avoids installing insulation as a separate layer.
Core thickness by use
For buildings with no special thermal requirement, a panel with a 30–40 mm core may be enough; for buildings with internal climate control (offices, temperature-controlled processes, farms), it is advisable to go up to 50–80 mm or more, depending on the climate zone and the energy-efficiency regulations that apply.
