When the solar panel project comes from the electrical or energy installer, the roofing professional usually steps in to ensure the structure and fixing don't compromise the roof's watertightness or safety.

Structural capacity for the extra weight

The panels and their mounting structure add weight concentrated at specific points of the roof, unlike a uniform load. Before installing, it's wise to check that the existing structure of purlins and rafters bears that point load, especially on old roofs not originally designed for it.

Fixing without compromising watertightness

The hooks or mounting brackets for the panels must be anchored to the structural elements (not just the tile) and sealed correctly so as not to create a new leak point. Using certified fixing systems specific to the roof's tile type, rather than generic solutions, greatly reduces the risk of future leaks at those points.

Coordination between electrical installer and roofing technician

When the panel installation is led by an electrical installer without roofing experience, it is advisable for a roofing professional to review (or directly carry out) the fixing and watertightness part, preventing the roof's warranty from being compromised by a poorly resolved intervention.
