The question "plasterboard or brick?" comes up in almost any renovation with new partitions, and the right answer depends on more factors than the price per m².
Advantages of plasterboard
It installs much faster (days instead of weeks), generates hardly any rubble or need for later drying like the mortar of a brick partition, and makes it much easier to run electrical and plumbing installations inside the hollow structure. Its weight is much lower, a relevant advantage in renovations of upper-floor flats where carrying material up is expensive and slow.
Advantages of the brick partition
It offers greater mass and, well executed, better "standard" acoustic insulation without depending so much on fillings or double boards. It copes better with high point loads without extra reinforcement (very heavy wardrobes, structural fixings) and remains the preferred choice in partitions separating different homes because of its perceived solidity.
When to recommend each
For quick renovations, interior partitions within the same home or when new installations have to be concealed, plasterboard usually wins on time and total cost. For party walls between homes or when the client prioritises the feel of solidity over the timescale, the brick partition remains a valid alternative to explain.
