Highly washable and stain-resistant paints cost noticeably more per litre than standard emulsion, and part of the professional's job is knowing how to explain to the client when that extra cost is worthwhile.

What distinguishes a washable paint

These paints form a more closed film resistant to rubbing, able to withstand repeated cleaning with a cloth and cleaning products without losing colour or sheen, something a standard matt paint doesn't cope with well in the medium term.

Where the extra cost is justified

Kitchens (grease splashes), high-traffic corridors, children's bedrooms and areas near switches and door handles (where hand dirt accumulates) are the cases where the investment in washable paint clearly shows in fewer repaints in the medium term.

Where it doesn't pay off

In adult bedrooms or low-traffic areas, the difference in resistance rarely justifies the extra cost, and systematically recommending the most expensive option throughout the home can make the quote seem needlessly inflated.
