With LED lighting, the watt stopped being a useful guide to how much light a lamp gives: you have to look at lumens. Calculating this item wrongly gives poorly lit rooms or unnecessary spending on too many light points.
Lumens per m² by room
As an indicative reference for general lighting: kitchen and bathroom need 300-500 lumens/m² as they are task areas; living room and bedroom, 150-300 lumens/m² as the lighting is more ambient; corridors and storerooms, 100-150 lumens/m².
Colour temperature, the other variable
Besides quantity, colour temperature matters: 3000K (warm) for living room and bedrooms, 4000K (neutral) for kitchen and bathroom, and 5000-6500K (cool) almost exclusively for garages and technical workspaces. Mixing temperatures in the same room is a common quoting mistake that forces a repeat purchase.
Light points vs. total lumens
Two installations with the same number of light points can give very different lighting depending on the lumens of each fitting. When quoting, it's best to set the total lumens needed per room first and then distribute them among the light points, not the other way round.
