The raised urban vegetable garden has become one of the most usual requests for both small gardens and terraces, and its quote varies quite a bit depending on the structure material and the substrate preparation.

Structure: treated wood, metal or masonry

Exterior-treated wooden beds are the cheapest option and the most natural looking, although they need some maintenance against the constant moisture of watering. Galvanised metal beds withstand the weather better without maintenance, and masonry or block ones are the most durable but also the most expensive and least versatile to move if the client changes their mind.

Quality substrate, the item that can't be cut

A raised bed needs a specific growing substrate, with good water and nutrient retention, very different from ordinary garden soil. Filling it with low-quality soil to save money is the most common reason plants fail to thrive, and generates a complaint that is in fact not the responsibility of the bed's construction.

Integrated irrigation: an upgrade worth offering

Adding a drip irrigation system built into the bed itself, with a controller, greatly improves the garden's results without depending on the client watering by hand every day, and it is a relatively cheap item to include in the initial quote.
